Camille Walala for Splice - Our colourful family shoot

Ok, I admit it, I don't like having my picture taken. It makes me nervous, I feel self conscious. I'd much rather take a selfie and then be able to delete it!!

That is however, until the extremely talented photographer, Sharon Cooper, persuaded me and my crew to do a family shoot with her. 'Come on, it'll be fun' she said... and it was. It was brilliant!

We discussed locations and wanted to do a big colourful eclectic shoot. Both Sharon and I love the geometric colour and prints of artist Camille Walala, so we decided to use the Splice building that Camille had been commissioned to paint, as a backdrop.

Camille Walala is a print designer specialising in powerful digital prints that are full of colour and energy. Her brand was established in East London in 2009 where she continues to live. Camille's signature Tribal POP style present a boundless energy that work perfectly in social spaces and her work brings happiness to all who see it. One of Camille's dreams was to brighten up cities by painting buildings and her dream came true when Splice approached her to paint their building in Shoreditch. The painting took just 10 days to complete and has brightened up a little corner of the East End!

Walking down Great Eastern Street from Old Street tube, we turned a corner and there in front of us was the stunning Splice building covered in the unmistakeable design of Camille Walala. Geometric lines and flamboyant graphics hit you amidst all the grey and gloomy buildings that surround it. I knew immediately that this was the perfect backdrop for a special shoot, one that Sharon would capture perfectly.

After, feasting on some rather lovely lunch, Sharon put us at ease creating a really natural look to the images. She made us so confident that in the end we were standing like pros in front of traffic jams full of taxi's, lorries and cyclists, all enjoying the spectacle of a shoot while they leisurely sat waiting for the lights to change - i'm delighted we brightened up their day! Sharon expertly got the children to play funny word games that had us all relaxed and happy while she silently captured our little family beautifully.

Sharon loves family photo shoots, she loves to capture who the family really are and will tailor the shoot to fit in with each family she photographs. whether it be the whole family, a couple or just the kiddies, you're sure to love the results.

We certainly did.
